Frequently Asked Questions

1

I've never been to Therapy, what should I expect?

Therapy is, first and foremost, a conversation.

Not an interrogation, not advice-giving, and not someone telling you how to live your life.

It is an opportunity to examine your thoughts, emotions, relationships and patterns with someone trained to notice what often goes unseen. As your awareness grows, so too does your capacity to make different choices. Change begins not through willpower alone, but through understanding.

There is no expectation to share everything immediately. We work at a pace that allows honesty to emerge rather than forcing disclosure.

2

I've enquired, now what?

After your enquiry has been received I will be in touch to set up an initial call. During this, there will be space to answer any further questions.

Should you wish to proceed, an appointment will be scheduled and further details around arrangements will be shared.

3

Can Therapy really Help?

Therapy cannot change what has happened to you.

It can change your relationship with it.

Many of the difficulties people experience—anxiety, conflict, shame, emotional disconnection, compulsive behaviours or sexual difficulties—are maintained by patterns that have developed over many years.

Therapy helps bring those patterns into awareness, allowing new ways of thinking, relating and responding to emerge.

There are no guarantees, but meaningful change is possible when there is commitment to the process.

4

Can you fix me?

Therapy is not something that is done to you. It is something we engage in together.

My role is to bring experience, structure, curiosity and challenge. Your role is to engage honestly with the process and apply what emerges beyond the therapy room.

A useful analogy is a broken bone. A clinician creates the conditions for healing, but the body heals itself. Therapy works in much the same way.

5

How do I know if I need Therapy?

Therapy is not reserved for people in crisis.

Many people seek therapy because they have become aware of patterns that continue to repeat, relationships that feel increasingly difficult, or a growing sense that they are living in ways that no longer reflect who they want to become.

You do not need to be at breaking point to benefit from therapy.

6

Is everything I tell you confidential?

Confidentiality is fundamental to therapy. However, if I believe there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else, or if I am legally required to disclose information, I may need to act. Wherever possible, I will discuss this with you first.

7

How do I know if we're a good fit?

The quality of the relationship between therapist and client is one of the strongest predictors of successful therapy.

Read through the website, ask questions and take time to consider whether my approach resonates with you.

If we begin working together and it becomes clear that another practitioner would better meet your needs, I will discuss this openly and support you in finding appropriate care.

8

How often should we meet?

Weekly sessions are recommended at the beginning of therapy.

Regular sessions help establish momentum, deepen the work and strengthen the therapeutic relationship.

Once therapy is established, some clients move to fortnightly sessions where this better suits their circumstances and therapeutic goals

9

How many session will I need?

There is no fixed number.

Some people seek therapy around a specific issue and find that relatively brief work is sufficient. Others choose longer-term therapy to understand longstanding patterns, relationships or aspects of themselves in greater depth.

We review the work together regularly, and therapy continues only for as long as it remains beneficial.

10

I/we need to see someone urgently, Do you have availability?

I understand that people often reach out during periods of significant distress.

While I cannot guarantee immediate availability, I will always do my best to offer the earliest appointment possible.

If I am unable to help within the timeframe you need, I will do my best to signpost you towards appropriate support.
